This album embodies love, hope, warmth, and abundance.
“It’s Okay Honey, I Love You”, originally intended to be a dance-centric album, shifted gears after the pandemic hit and was written and recorded during an intense healing process I went through in the fall of 2021. It is my intention with sharing this work that it will truly help others on their own healing journey. A beautiful piece of work to help come back and to ground, center, and align.
A little history:
Pre-pandemic I was already experiencing deep depression and exploring natural ways to make amends with that state through cognitive therapy, bodywork, expressive arts, sobriety, movement practices, and more. My lowest mental and emotional states upon the pandemic ensuing brought me to a place of my most expansive creative period, where I really used art and music to not so much combat depression, but to face it and say, “look, I see right through you, it’s okay, I’m okay, and I’m ready to make change.” I put my heart into creating something that could hold me when nothing else could.
As an artist, I have always wanted to create a body of music that was ambient focused. I am very drawn to works by Brian Eno and Aphex Twin. During the first winter of the pandemic I listened to Lionmilk’s EP, “Forever In Your Sun” as a healing tool. I took nightly baths, played the album, and afterwards listened to guided meditations upon sleeping. I called my evenings “portals”, from the day into the night, I felt immense isolation and sadness, discovering depths of myself and psyche I didn't know existed, and I faced places I may never have experienced without such stillness and deprivation which evolved into the most beautiful art I have created.
The album:
The title, “It’s Okay Honey, I Love You” are words from my mother.
I am continuously understanding how the arts affect humans physically, emotionally, and mentally. I believe the sounds and sonic explorations I’ve created channel and align our subtle energetic body. The album accompanies each chakra, our energy centers, beginning at the crown of the head and descending to the base of the pelvis. The more you listen to the album in a meditative state, the more you will experience energetic alignment. I repeat: the more you listen to this album, the more you will experience energetic alignment.
Notes on the production:
The album was produced using long and minimally layered synth and vocal loops. It is soft, simple, and psychedelic. Only one track, “Sometimes Drifting, Often Silent” includes lyrics: “Coming back, coming back, it’s okay honey, I love you”. The synths used were mainly the Novation KS4 along with the Dave Smith Mopho X4. I also used samples from nature in Maine and my brief stay in Thailand. I recorded, mixed, and mastered the album on Ableton.
Final thoughts:
It’s okay to be alone and to embrace stillness and solitude, keeping in mind those moments will pass. The universe will support you when you honor yourself, stay true to your intentions, and live with integrity. Connecting to yourself is connecting to nature, true nature. Live life with unique discovery, self awareness, and love. Be mindful in the space of detachment. Reflections of you are of the universe. Empower. Encouragement. Accept unknown territories. Let go of fear of loss. Be humble. Love.
